Heavy showers fail to thwart Cricket Meadow teams as all claim much-needed positive results, harnessing quarter final glory fever...

Bridgnorth (107-7) vs Wellington (120-6) - Winning Draw

Despite falling just short of the win in a shortened run chase, Bridgnorth left Wellington with the lions share of the points after a mixed game with bat and ball.

Heavy showers delayed play by over two hours, but Wellington eventually made it out to the middle after Bridgnorth won the toss, before being forced off yet again by another downpour. After resuming once again, seamers Jaspreet Singh (2-27) and Rehman Unaib removed the top order, before the hosts fought back in the middle overs. Legspinner Zak Abbas once again made a difference in the latter part of the innings, picking up 3-19 as Wellington looked to push on in pursuit of quick runs.

With league rules meaning both sides needed to face twenty overs to produce a result, Wellington declared their innings closed on 120-6 off 27 overs, meaning Bridgnorth would need 121 for victory, or 96 to claim a winning draw.

The Cricket Meadow men went out with an attacking mindset early on, and looked well set at 31-2 as Rahul Kaushal and Seb Scott combined to knock the ball around well. But the introduction of spinner Dan Lloyd put the game right back in the balance as he ran through Bridgnorth's middle order, claiming 5-29.

As the focus changed to ensuring draw points were claimed, the lower order dug in whilst last week's centurion Scott (41no) played a vital anchor role. After the winning draw target was reached, the final over was seen out until the penultimate ball, hit for six by Scott in celebration of a second positive result of the season.

Bridgnorth II (159) beat Wellington (151) by eight runs

A rollercoaster affair at Cricket Meadow saw Bridgnorth's second string claim their first win of the season, as they narrowly overcame Wellington at home.

After choosing to field first, the visitors' bowling attack were on top early on as the hosts were quickly reduced to 34-5. Stand-in skipper Chris Green (33) then found an ally in Sujjay Iyer to arrest the slide, before Jenson Caine counter-attacked with 31 off just 18 balls. Another mini collapse then saw Bridgnorth slump to 106-9, before an entertaining final wicket stand of 53 between Muhammed Khan (36no) and Mohit Sood (21) saw the total pushed up to 159 off 24 overs.

The visitors began their chase relatively calmly, despite losing a wicket early on, but the introduction of spin once again put the game back in the balance. Alex Yarnley made the second breakthrough, before Sood took 3-24 to run through the middle order. Green and Caine then chipped in with a wicket each, making the scoreboard read 82-7, and then 119-8, before Khan returned to take his second.

However, at 124-9 the game was far from over as last man Chohan combined with visiting skipper Steve Moules to inch their side ever closer to the win. But with just eight runs separating the sides, Ross Hurdley trapped Chohan in front to dismiss him leg before, triggering scenes of euphoria as victory was finally tasted in 2024.

Bridgnorth (202-2) beat Wellington (151-9) by 51 runs

The third team put together a superb team performance to pull off their first win of the season, inspired by a superb unbeaten 99 from Huw Morgan.

Invited to bat first after the rain delay, Bridgnorth showed their intent early on as openers Rich Ealey and skipper Matt Lunn quickly got the runs flowing. Lunn's dismissal brought Morgan to the crease, who continued the attacking intent by punishing anything loose and targeting a short boundary.

Ealey then fell for 54, before another heavy shower caused play to be halted at 147-2 in the 20th over. The resumption saw Ben Musgrave join Morgan at the crease, but there was no let-up in the scoring as Morgan continued to be merciless. Needing eleven runs off the final two balls of the 25-over innings to reach his century, the penultimate ball was launched for six over wide long on, before the last ball was hit high over square leg, but fell agonisingly short of the longer boundary, leaving him just one short of a well deserved century.

With the huge target to chase, the hosts came out with attacking intent and quickly put Bridgnorth's bowlers under pressure. Despite the onslaught, young spinner Issy Crann and Alex Thomas both found a way to pick up an early wicket, before tight spells in the middle overs from Dileep Sager and Freddie Ward put their team back in control. Ben Musgrave, Noah Bishell and George Brettell all then cashed in to pick up two wickets apiece in the latter overs, as Bridgnorth ultimately claimed their third positive result of the day.
