Kaushal's maiden Birmingham League century helps defeat Old Hill, before fourths all-round team performance beats league leaders Broseley...

Bridgnorth (317-5) beat Old Hill (316-1) by five wickets

Bridgnorth pulled off a remarkable, record-breaking run chase to win their second game of the season at Old Hill, as the batting unit fired in unison.

After inviting the hosts to bat first, Old Hill's top-order maintained a steady tempo throughout their first innings despite the loss of opener Waqas Ahmed, dismissed by Muhammed Khan (1-68). From then on the home side scored consistently throughout, as Hasan Ahmed and home captain Bilal Hassan both compiled unbeaten centuries. However, the lack of risks taken clearly inspired the visitors to take on the mammoth target.

Another solid start from openers Rahul Kaushal and Harj Dhinsay (24) laid an early platform, before Usamah Khan (47) joined Kaushal for a 96-run second wicket stand. Reaching 135-2 at the halfway point, Raja Ateeq provided an injection of impetus with a 17-ball 29, and Seb Scott a run-a-ball 27 to keep the Cricket Meadow men on course.

At 237-4 in the 39th over, and needing one final surge towards the winning line, Jaspreet Singh (46 not out) responded with a flurry of late boundaries to race the visitors closer to their target, whilst Kaushal continued on to complete an excellent maiden Birmingham League century.

Dismissed with 120 with the scores level, it was left to Sam Whitney hit a single off the last ball of the 47th over to complete an astonishing victory and stun the home crowd.

Bridgnorth II (205-9) lost to Frankwell (208-6) by four wickets

Bridgnorth's second string fought hard with bat and ball but were ultimately outdone by a stronger opposition in the shape of Frankwell at Cricket Meadow.

Choosing to bat first, the hosts' first innings total was largely built around well-compiled half centuries from Arjun Cherukuri (61) and Charlie Ward (56) as the pair put on 110 runs for the third wicket. Late cameos from Peter Scott (16) and Huw Morgan (23 not out) helped them up to their final score of 205-9 off 45 overs.

In response, the visitors looked totally in control of the run-chase, racing to 114 in just 16 overs, but the hosts refused to go down without a fight. The introduction of spinners Scott (2-52) and Alex Yarnley (4-56) saw them chip away at the Frankwell line-up, and at 167-6 the game was back in the balance.

But a late surge from the lower order saw the visiting side re-assert themselves, completing the run-chase in the 39th over.

Bridgnorth III (211-9) vs Iscoyd & Fenns Bank (237-7) - Losing Draw

Despite a sublime, counter-attacking century from Pete Thompson, the third team fell just short in a challenging run-chase at Iscoyd Park on Saturday, but dug in sufficiently to score 12 points in the game.

Choosing to bowl first, tight early spells from Guy Black (2-58) and Alex Thomas (1-38) kept the hosts in check early on, before two quick wickets from young spinner Izzy Crann (2-42) left Iscoyd at 103-4. The hosts then countered by attacking the short boundary with regularity, and despite picking up two late wickets, a final total of 237 off 40 overs appeared challenging.

Bridgnorth's top order then attempted to lay a platform, but the hosts bowling attack chipped away, although a 57-run third wicket stand between Thompson and Black kept the visitors in the game. After two more quick wickets, Shashi Cherukuri then joined Thompson, who upped the ante in an attempt to knock the hosts' accurate bowling attack off their rhythm. A remarkable assault saw him race to his century, with 17 boundaries and 6 sixes featuring in a superb 133, before he finally fell late in the piece.

Refusing to leave defeated, the tail then saw out the final two overs to save the losing draw points.

Bridgnorth IV (133-9) beat Broseley (110) by 23 runs

The fourth team continued their recent winning form by putting together a phenomenal all-round team effort to take down league leaders Broseley.

Choosing to bat first, openers Jack Welch and Kieran Rodenhurst got Bridgnorth off to a rapid start, before the hosts' experienced bowling attack pegged them back. Max Hopson and George Brettell then dug in to arrest the slide, before late cameos from Izzy Crann (20 not out) and Steve Crann dragged their team up to a seemingly competitive 133-9 off 40 overs.

The hosts then came out with clear ambition of making extremely short work of the total, but Bridgnorth's bowlers kept their belief and stuck to their tasks. Izzy Crann (1-42) struck early, before skipper Alex Thomas (2-12) removed the dangerous Alfie Oakes. Young legspinner Ben Musgrave then produced an excellent controlled spell in the middle overs to run through the hosts' middle order, including the vital wicket of captain Dan Handley, whilst Neve Crann impressed from the other end to pick up 2-28.

But at 86-9 the home side continued to believe and chipped away, supported by a vocal home crowd, before Hugo Bebb spun a ball around the number ten's defences to dismiss Broseley for 110, silencing the onlookers but sparking joyous scenes in the middle.
