Bridgnorth beaten at Shifnal despite Scott century

Second team fight hard but ultimately lose out to Quatt; fourths undone by Tagg-inspired St Georges...

Bridgnorth (207-8) lost to Shifnal (208-2) by eight wickets

Seb Scott hit an excellent, unbeaten century at Shifnal on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to prevent the hosts taking victory.

The Cricket Meadow men had slipped to 18-3 after being asked to bat first, whereupon Scott combined first with captain Matt Martin (33) for a 60-run stand, before adding another 75 alongside Sam Whitney (27). Another mini-collapse saw the score slide to 164-7, before Charlie Ward gave Scott the support he needed to reach three figures for the second time in Bridgnorth colours.

However, the Shifnal top-order were in uncharitable mood and quickly set about their run chase. The writing was on the wall as the score raced past 100, and despite Zak Abbas striking twice in quick succession, Shropshire batsman Andre Bradford reached his own century to take the home side to victory in the 32nd over.

Bridgnorth II (168-9) lost to Quatt (169-5) by five wickets

Despite a battling team effort, the second team were undone by an experienced Quatt outfit at Cricket Meadow.

After losing opener Alex Yarnley to the first ball of the game, most of Bridgnorth's line-up contributed but no one was able to kick on and make a match-changing score as the visitors' seasoned bowling attack chipped away at regular intervals. Chris Green and Ross Hurdley top-scored with 37 apiece, and the final total of 168 off 45 overs seemed competitive but getable.

However, Bridgnorth's bowlers came out looking to make a statement, as Dan Rodenhurst and Muhammad Khan got amongst Quatt's top order. Taking two wickets apiece, followed by a further breakthrough from Yarnley, the game was in the balance as the visitors slipped to 79-5. But Terry Hughes and Craig Jones combined their many years of cricketing nous to ease their team back into control, and the run chase was completed in the 41st over.

Bridgnorth IV (103) lost to St Georges (194-8) by 91 runs

The fourths fell well short in their run chase at Cricket Meadow on Sunday, after St Georges racked up 194-8 off 40 overs, thanks in the main to an unbeaten hundred by Ben Tagg.

Bridgnorth's bowlers stuck to their tasks in the field as Rhona Ferrans, Angharad Morgan, Alfie Proctor and George Barnsley all took a wicket apiece. A crazy final over from skipper Alex Thomas saw him hit the timbers twice in two balls, and two run outs being effected as the visitors searched for late runs.

However, despite early cameos from Huw Morgan and Dileep Sagar, the visitors ran through the hosts batting line up, before Ferrans showed some admirable tenacity to top score with 23.
