Despite big efforts all-round, Bridgnorth's teams came second best at the weekend, with a bumper Bank Holiday coming up...

Bridgnorth's first team were undone by a strong Worfield outfit on Saturday, as the hosts piled up a dominant 254-4 off their 50 overs. The Cricket Meadow men were only able to reach 130 in response, but once again the bowlers stuck to their tasks well to restrict the home side early on.

Italian international representative Jaspreet Singh led the way with the ball to finish with 2-58, well supported by Zak Abbas and Ravi Kumar, but Worfield's Harvey Sage hit a fine century to underpin his team's winning total.

The second team produced an excellent performance in the field with just ten men to restrict visitors Albrighton to just 189 at Cricket Meadow. Captain Lewis Hurdley led from the front to take 4-20, whilst young legspinner Ben Musgrave continued his early season form to pick up 3-33.

Bridgnorth's response, however, was cut short as Albrighton's bowling attack proved too much for a batting line-up missing key run-scorers. Former Shropshire seamer Adam Shimmons was ultimately the star of the show with 5-20, as the Cricket Meadow men were dismissed for 72.

A youthful third team put in another admirable effort on Saturday, only to once again be outdone by the weather for the second time in two outings. An excellent display in the field at Bomere Heath saw five run outs, as the hosts were limited to 170-8 off their 40 overs. Noah Bishell effected three of the dismissals, whilst Guy Black chipped in with 2-11.

The following run chase reached 32-1 in the ninth over, before a thunderstorm prevented the game from reaching a natural conclusion.

The fourth team fought hard in warm and testing conditions on Sunday against a strong Frankton side, who ultimately ran out convincing victors. Skipper Alex Thomas and Jenson Caine both took two scalps apiece, whilst youngsters Will Scott and Isaac Lunn were both rewarded with their maiden wickets in senior cricket.

The second innings was short lived however, with only Caine able to pass double figures in response.

The upcoming Bank Holiday weekend sees action on all three days, with games at Cricket Meadow on Saturday and Monday.
